Exit Strategy · From the ConvoControl Series

Exit Strategy by Tara Shuler, paperback

The Conversations That Got Me Out Alive.

The decision to leave is the starting line. Everything after it is a negotiation.

What do you do in the months between knowing you have to go and actually being gone? Tara spent years teaching salespeople how to read a room, control their volume, ask instead of tell, and protect information like leverage. Then she used every piece of that system to leave a dangerous marriage safely. This is that system, written for the highest stakes there are. Not advice from a distance. What she actually did.

  • Read the room before you speak. Why reacting to the feeling telegraphs everything, and what to do instead.
  • Control your volume first. Ask, don't tell. The two skills that keep a conversation from turning.
  • Know what you will not say. Living two lives at once without giving your plan away.
  • Build your exit team. Independence is infrastructure. The practical chapters: people, money, documents, timing.
  • When the pressure spikes, the objection deck, and the closing conversation. What to say, what to hold, and what comes after the deal closes.
  • 197 pages16 chapters plus the Exit Readiness Reference
  • Lived, not theoryTara's own exit, in her own words
  • Tools, not traumaEvery chapter is something you can use this week

About the Author

Tara Shuler is the founder of ConvoControl and the creator of the ConvoDojo. She spent more than 20 years teaching people how to control high-stakes conversations, then found out how much that system was worth when her own life depended on it. A former competitive gymnast and coach, she trains conversation the way athletes train: drilled until it is reflex. Exit Strategy is also one of her keynote talks.

You are already in the negotiation. Do you want to run it with a plan?

If you are in danger right now, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788. Free, confidential, 24/7. This book is one woman's experience, not a substitute for a safety plan built with an advocate.
